Have you ever thought about sharing your best friend (your dog) to help others? Yes we need time with our best friends, but so do other people that don’t or can’t have a dog for themselves.
Do you have a dog that loves EVERYONE they see and seems to know when someone needs their attention? How about thinking about volunteering a little of your time and your best friends time, with a local Adult or Children’s health care facility. It is a known fact that animals make people feel better when they are ill. Call around to some local facilities and ask if they have programs where you can come in maybe once a week or every two weeks and take your BEST FRIEND (dog) around to all the people that need a little love. Who knows, maybe you will make some friends as well as your dog and the healing affect it has, will make everyone’s day.
Do you have a dog that loves the water? Think about training them for water rescue. Especially if you live close to a lake or the ocean. Dogs have saved many people and knowing you and your BEST FRIEND was able to save someone’s life. Wouldn’t it be worth it?
Do you have a dog that seems to be able to find things or people? There are some dogs that are just natural at this. I have a friend that should have used his Doberman as a rescue dog, but never did, and Kasey is a natural at it. One day his little dog got out of the house. He had just taken Murphy after his father passed away and they were still getting to know each other, when he got out of the house. He called and called for him, but he did not come. So he looked at Kasey, his Doberman and said, “Go get Murphy and bring him back.” She seemed to understand and he let Kasey out. She took off running as if she knew the scent and in about an hour he could see her coming down the lane, nudging Murphy’s behind, as if to say……….”get home”. It wasn’t long before Kasey and Murphy were best friends too.
Dogs not only help us, by being our companions, they can also help others. Wouldn’t that be the ultimate gift?
